East Genomics

Research

East Genomic Laboratory Hub embeds research and development into the core of its operations and has a vision to be a national and international leader in the field of clinical and translational genomics research.

Research and development vision

Our vision is for the East GLH to become a national leader for clinical translation and implementation of new tests and technologies, and to build an international reputation as a research active clinically accredited genomic laboratory.

We will achieve this by embedding research and development into the core of our operations. This will ensure that our staff have continued opportunities for skill development and scientific outputs as part of both personal and general workforce development plans.

Non-urgent advice: Achieving our vision

We have undertaken the following activities in the Cambridge University Hospitals Genomic Laboratory order to achieve this vision:

Established R&D governance structure and processes and recruited Communications and Customer Relations Managers

Close collaboration with Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, and the Integrative Genomics theme

Engaged and established Memoranda of Understanding with several University of Cambridge departments (Medical Genetics, Paediatrics, Haematology, Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre, Institute of Metabolic Sciences) to:

  • accelerate the translation of latest research developments into the clinical setting and accredited service
  • access expertise and knowledge to improve and further develop genomic tests required to deliver the full National Genomic Test Directory
  • collaborate on research grant applications

Actively work with industry partners (Illumina, Thermo Fisher, Zetta Genomics, BioDiscovery) to ensure we quickly and efficiently adopt the latest technological and analytical developments that not only better meet the needs of the diagnostic service, but enable wide-ranging research activities

Active participation Genomic Medicine Service Research Collaborative and its Consent Working Group
